About
Brainy Bears offers literacy programs to children in the Melton area, aimed at giving them the best start to their learning.
Aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Curriculum, our programs allow children aged 3-8, to become confident and happy learners. We focus on developing essential foundational skills for reading, writing, and spelling. We offer a multi-sensory phonemic awareness/phonics program where children come together in small groups to have fun, make friends, and support each other through their learning.
At Brainy Bears, we also offer reading intervention for students in Prep-Year 4. Many children find reading difficult and it is not their fault. In a safe and supportive environment we provide quality small group intervention to help struggling readers get back on track.
Brainy Bears is run by an enthusiastic and passionate school teacher, Jessica Mounsey. Clever Cub, Brainy Bear and Gifted Grizzly are our main characters and they welcome everyone into their learning space.

Turn struggling readers into successful readers
Is your child struggling to read?
Did they miss months of essential learning due to COVID-19?
Are they receiving the quality support they need at school?
Many children struggle to read and often end up falling behind, but it is not their fault. As parents and educators, it is our responsibility to provide these children with intensive and systematic reading instruction.
Brainy Bears' Back on Track Literacy Intervention can help
Our Back on Track Literacy Intervention program aims to turn struggling readers into successful readers by providing daily, intensive, and small-group instruction.
Our 30-45 minute sessions are fun and engaging. They are designed to build confidence by allowing all children to achieve success. We focus on the five fundamental building blocks of literacy: phonological awareness, fluency, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.
This is an intensive program that runs between 4-5 sessions per week for 10 weeks. We keep the group sizes small in order to provide personalised explicit reading instruction to each and every child. During our initial one-on-one assessment, we aim to delve deeper into their strengths and challenges. This allows us to group children with similar needs and tailor a program that will bridge the gaps in their knowledge.
Included in this program is an initial and end of program assessment. This is important for informing teaching and tracking progress. With parent permission, we also contact your child's teacher to learn more about their current reading and writing progress and goals.
